Blackheads and congestion refer to blocked pores that form non-painful bumps beneath the skin. This is generally because the congestion is trapped beneath a build up of dead skin. At City Laser Clinic we are able to clear blackheads and congestion without damaging the surrounding skin.
Treatment for Blackheads & Congestion
To treat blackheads and congestion, we use a combination of peels and advanced skin treatments to clear the skin. We do not extract blackheads and congestion, nor do we recommend doing so. Extracting blackheads and congestion causes trauma to the surrounding skin, exposes yourself to acne and breakouts, and leaves the pores open to being reclogged.
Our treatments allow the congestion and blackheads to lift naturally. Depending on how deep the blackheads and congestion are, we recommend 6-8 treatments, once every 2-4 weeks. Whilst this method is a bit slower than traditional extractions, it will prevent your skin from clogging up again as well as improve your overall skin condition.
An initial consultation is required prior to treating your skin concern. The consultation allows us to go through your current skincare and lifestyle routines, in case there is something in particular that may be causing your blackheads & congestion.

Technology
As congestion & blackheads are caused by blocked pores, our main focus in treating them is to break down the accumulation of dead skin so we can then clear the pores. For this reason, we use a combination of Microdermabrasion & BioRePeel to break down/remove the dead skin, and Carbon Laser Treatments & RF Microneedling to remove the congestion/blackheads as well as reduce the pore size.
Downtime
Microdermabrasion – No downtime, however we do not recommend applying makeup after the treatment to prevent further congestion.
Vivace RF Microneedling – 1 day downtime. Makeup can be applied the next day.
Carbon Laser Treatment – No downtime, however we do not recommend applying makeup after the treatment to prevent further congestion.
BioRePeel – 1 week downtime. Your skin will begin to mildly shed 2-3 days after your treatment which will last approximately one week.
