At City Laser Clinic, we offer the safest method and most effective laser hair removal procedures on the market today. Our laser hair removal (LHR) treatments are performed using the worlds leading technology – CANDELA GentleLASE (Alexandrite Laser 755nm). The CANDELA GentleLASE is a genuine, FDA approved, medical grade laser. We don’t use Intense Pulse Light (IPL) as it’s not as effective and has an increased risk of complications – click here to learn the difference between the two!
This blog is dedicated to answering all of those itching questions that you might have, providing you with only laser hair removal facts.
Is it safe?
Yes! Laser hair removal is safe to use on all areas of our bodies, including the cranium (scalp), face, and even genital areas. This is because the energy of the laser targets and disrupts hair follicles whilst leaving the skin’s surface unaffected. As laser is targeted and short pulsed, it is also unable to penetrate deep enough to reach any internal organs.
Will I be left without a single hair?
In some cases, yes, but it’s rare! It’s important to remember that LHR is a process that helps to permanently reduce hair growth. Whilst it is a longer lasting hair removal solution, we cannot guarantee that 100% of your hair will be completely removed. However we can guarantee a 75-85% permanent reduction in each area. In many cases, a large reduction of hair growth can be seen after just one treatment. Although if you’re after an 85% permanent reduction, you will need 9-12 sessions to achieve full results. This is due to the fact that only the actively growing hair follicles (Anagen hair phase) are destroyed each session and not all hair will be in the active growing phase at the same time.
Will it help with my ingrown hairs/folliculitis?
Laser hair removal is medically recommended as the most effective way to treat in-grown hairs. As a result, many doctors will often recommend LHR to treat ingrown hairs (aka Folliculitis).
Finally, you can be free of unwanted hair and those painful ingrowns. For most people, LHR opens the door to a new world, where waxing becomes a thing of the past. It’s the key to a smooth, hair free, and in-grown free skin and will give you the confidence to finally wear that bathing suit!
Can I have Laser Hair Removal whilst pregnant?
Unfortunately it’s not safe to have LHR treatments whilst pregnant. Whilst there isn’t any scientific evidence that LHR definitely will affect your unborn baby, this is also no evidence that it won’t. It’s best to avoid the risk and come in when your baby is born.
Note: We can treat all areas except for areola, chest, and underarms whilst breastfeeding.
Does Laser Hair Removal work on blonde hair?
In short, no. Laser hair removal is attracted to pigment (colour) in the hair. For this reason, if there’s no pigment present (such as in red, grey, white, and blonde hair), the laser is unable to pick up on the hair nor destroy the follicle in which it grows from.
Can I have Laser Hair Removal if I have dark skin?
Unfortunately Laser technology is attracted to any dark colour, not just the colour of our hair. With the Candela GentleLase, we’re able to safely treat skin types 1-3 and a light skin type 4. However we cannot treat dark skin types 4, or types 5-6 without the risk of burning.
