Freckle Removal Treatment
The beauty of diversity is that we are all made up differently. For this reason, we all have different skin types and consequently react differently to sun exposure as well as to lasers. In order to treat a wider range of people, we have a range of lasers that are able to safely treat most skin & freckle types.
At City Laser Clinic, we treat freckles with one of three laser devices – Medlite Q-Switched, Alexandrite, or Co2 Laser. An initial consultation is required prior to treatment to determine which laser will best suit you. These treatments are safe for teenagers under the age of 18, however must be accompanied by an adult.
Although treatments may differ with skin type, 1-2 treatments are normally all that is required for complete removal. As the process is quite intensive, there is also two weeks of downtime. This downtime allows the freckles to scab up and fall off naturally, however you may cover them with mineral makeup 3 days post-treatment.
Once the scabbing flakes off, you are left with new pigment-free skin!
Please note: whilst we can remove your freckles, we cannot prevent new freckles from appearing. SPF50+ and other means of sun protection are essential to wear daily.
Technology
At City Laser Clinic, we only use laser technologies to remove pigmentation. These lasers include the Medlite Q-Switched Laser, the Fraxis Co2 Laser, and the Candela GentleLase Alexandrite Laser.
The Medlite Q-Switched ND:Yag Laser is attracted to foreign pigment in the skin. When the laser passes your freckles, it will destroy the excess pigment causing the blemish. Similarly, the Candela GentleLase Alexandrite laser is attracted to dark pigment in the skin. The Alexandrite laser will pick up on and destroy any dark pigment it passes. This is ideal for freckles that are distinctively darker than your natural skin tone.
Unlike the Medlite & Candela lasers, the Fraxis Co2 is a fractional laser. Fractional lasers are ablative and aim to resurface the skin. This means that the laser will treat the entire surface of the skin (not just the pigment). It works by causing microdamage to the skin, generating the skin’s natural wound healing response. Whilst the skin heals, it will repair any damage your skin may have including any scarring, fine lines/wrinkles, enlarged pores, discoloration, as well as your pigmentation.
In your initial consultation, our pigmentation specialist will assess your unique skin & freckle type and advise which laser will work best for you. She will also explain the treatment process, any downtime involved, and provide an exact quote. The consultation is $50, however this fee is deducted from your first treatment or refunded if you are not suitable for treatment.
Downtime
All freckle removal treatments attract 2 weeks of downtime, regardless which laser device is used.
During this time, the freckles will scab and lift off of the skin, revealing clear, pigment-free skin beneath.
